Measuring Dynamic Vehicle Loads

چکیده

• The fifth objective of the AASHO Road Test was as follows: "To develop instrumentation, test procedures, data, graphs and formulas which will reflect the capabilities of the various test sections; and which will be helpful in future highway design in the evaluation of the loadcarrying capabilities of existing highways and determining the most promising areas of further highway research." It was with this objective in mind that development of equipment for measuring the dynamic load transmitted to the pavement and bridge structures through the tires of a moving vehicle was undertaken. Past research and study has shown that the load transmitted through the tires of a vehicle in motion is not constant but varies in frequency and magnitude with many factors such as the pavement profile, vehicle speed, tire pressure, tire size and the vehicle suspension system. An adequate means of making a continuous record of the frequency and magnitude of these load variations was not available when the development reported herein was undertaken. For many years studies of pavement deflections and slab strains were considered to be of value in determining the strength, design and future life of pavements; however, these measurements could only be determined under static load conditions or at best under creep speed load. It has long been observed that information on pavement behavior relating to loads applied by moving vehicles would be of value when compared to data collected under static load conditions. There are many other areas of highway and vehicle research and design where the relationship between dynamic load and other measurable characteristics would be of value, including bridge impact, loading due to pavement roughness, cracking, rutting and joints and the loads due to various vehicle suspension systems.

Structural analysis of the deck of access bridges in offshore docks under dynamic loading of moving heavy vehicles (Case study: 10 feet concrete deck with prefabricated beam, under the passage of 125-ton bogie)

Ports are the most important economic, political and military bottlenecks. This puts shoreline structures (port) in the class of important structures and they have a crucial role in the countries’ life. Pile and deck wharf and their access bridges and offshore deck (jetties), are one of the parts which are supplier of coupling between the land and the waterfront. Correct and exact estimation of...

Computationally Intelligent Online Dynamic Vehicle Routing by Explicit Load Prediction in an Evolutionary Algorithm

In this paper we describe a computationally intelligent approach to solving the dynamic vehicle routing problem where a fleet of vehicles needs to be routed to pick up loads at customers and drop them off at a depot. Loads are introduced online during the actual planning of the routes. The approach described in this paper uses an evolutionary algorithm (EA) as the basis of dynamic optimization....

Bridge Fatigue Damage Assessment under Vehicle and Non-Stationary Hurricane Wind

During hurricane events, large stress cycles from the non-stationary wind and dynamic vehicle loads could possibly induce damage initiations and propagations. Utilizing the non-stationary wind field modeling techniques and the recent developed vehicle-bridge-wind dynamic analysis framework, this paper initiates the bridge fatigue damage assessment of bridges under vehicle and non-stationary ext...

Plunging Airfoil Load Characteristics Equipped with Gurney Flap

Numerous experiments have been conducted on plunging Eppler 361 airfoil in a subsonic wind tunnel. The experimental tests involved measuring the surface pressure distribution over the airfoil at Re=1.5×105. The airfoil was equipped with Gurney flap(heights of 2.6, 3.3 and 5% chord) and plunged at 6cm amplitude. The unsteady aerodynamic loads were calculated from the surface pressure measurement...

Competitive Performance Assessment of Dynamic Vehicle Routing Technologies Using Sequential Auctions

This paper compares technologies for a dynamic truckload pickup and delivery problem in a competitive environment using sequential auctions. In this environment, demands arrive randomly over time and are described by pick up, delivery locations and hard timewindows. Upon demand arrival, carriers compete for the loads in a second price auction. Four fleet assignment technologies with different d...
